BRG Julian Date Clocks — Stand-Alone Digital Julian Calendar Clocks

By BRG Precision Products  |  July 8, 2026  |  Julian Date Clocks

Most people tell time by month, day, and year. But for military personnel, government agencies, food manufacturers, and pharmaceutical companies, there’s a simpler, more precise way to track dates: the Julian date — the day of the year numbered sequentially from 1 to 366.

BRG Precision Products manufactures a full line of digital Julian Date Clocks that display this day-of-year number in large, easy-to-read LED digits. They’re available as stand-alone clocks, and in synchronized models including DuraTime HP, DuraTime Wi-Fi, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), and Ethernet configurations. All automatically update for Daylight Saving Time and are housed in attractive black aluminum or black polycarbonate frames with user-changeable color LEDs.

What Is a Julian Date?

The Julian date — as used in commerce, military, and government operations — is simply the sequential day of the year. January 1 is Day 1, February 1 is Day 32, and December 31 is Day 365 (or 366 in a leap year). This is not to be confused with the astronomical Julian Date used by computers, which is an entirely different system.

The sequential day-of-year format makes it fast and unambiguous to calculate the number of days between two events, track shelf life, or coordinate operations across time zones and calendars. A three-digit Julian date eliminates the confusion of month/day formatting differences between countries and industries.

Who Uses Julian Date Clocks?

Military & Government
The military has long used Julian dates for scheduling, logistics, and operational planning. A Julian clock on the wall of a command center, operations room, or logistics facility gives personnel an instant, unambiguous reference for the day of the year — no calendar math required.

Food Industry
Food manufacturers and processors use Julian dates to calculate the number of days between production, processing, and expiration events. A Julian clock eliminates manual calculation errors and gives production floor staff a constant, visible reference.

Pharmaceutical Industry
Pharmacies and pharmaceutical manufacturers use Julian calendar clocks to calculate prescription expiration dates and track batch production timelines. Accurate day-of-year tracking is critical in regulated environments where date errors can have serious consequences.

BRG Julian Date Clock Models

User-Changeable Color LEDs • Automatic Daylight Saving Time Updates • Black Aluminum or Polycarbonate Frame • Stand-Alone, HP, Wi-Fi, PoE & Ethernet Models • GSA Available

All BRG Julian Date Clocks feature user-changeable color bar-segment LEDs — choose from red, blue, green, yellow, magenta, cyan, or white. The bar-segment LED format is easier to read than older dot-type displays, even at a distance or under challenging lighting conditions.

Model Type How It Stays Accurate Best For
Stand-Alone Internal oscillator, factory set Facilities without a network or sync infrastructure
DuraTime HP
(High Precision)
2.4 GHz wireless sync from HP master clock Facilities with an existing DuraTime HP synchronized clock system
DuraTime Wi-Fi Wi-Fi network time sync Facilities with Wi-Fi infrastructure; easy wireless deployment
PoE
(Power-over-Ethernet)
NTP via Ethernet; powered by network cable Facilities with PoE network infrastructure; single-cable installation
Ethernet NTP via Ethernet Facilities with Ethernet infrastructure requiring network time sync

All models automatically update for Daylight Saving Time — no manual adjustment required at the clock face twice a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is a Julian date the same as the astronomical Julian Date used in computing?

No. The Julian date displayed by BRG Julian clocks is the sequential day of the year (1–366), used in military, government, food, and pharmaceutical applications. The astronomical Julian Date is an entirely different system used in computing and astronomy.

Q: Do BRG Julian Date Clocks automatically handle leap years?

Yes. All BRG Julian Date Clocks correctly count to 366 in leap years and update automatically.

Q: Do the clocks require manual adjustment for Daylight Saving Time?

No. All BRG Julian Date Clock models automatically update for Daylight Saving Time.

Q: Can a Julian Date Clock also display the current time?

Yes. BRG Julian clocks can be configured to display both the Julian date and the current time, depending on the model and display configuration selected.

Q: Are BRG Julian Date Clocks available on GSA contract?

Yes. BRG Julian Date Clocks are available through GSA Multiple Award Schedule contract # 47QSMS26D002K, SIN 339950. BRG sells exclusively direct with no authorized third-party resellers.
